Our work / Sailor Jerry

Hello

It looks like the pigeon has landed and you're following its foot tag!

However, the URL you've entered doesn't look quite right - maybe give it one more try?

Alternatively you could go straight to the next bit and see for yourself why the pigeon couldn't reach Sailor Jerry's marketing-savvy audience.

Hands up if you want it!

‘Provenance of Squid’, the Weapon7 band, played its debut gig last night at The Albany on Great Portland Street. The dive was over-packed, chaotic, sweaty and the crowd were well up for it; as were the band!

The set contained some old favourites such as Teenage Kicks and Ever Fallen In Love? as well as mash-ups of Enter Sandman vs Beat It, and No More Heroes vs You Spin Me Round (Like A Record). The crowd were jumping, the roof was shaking, the walls were perspiring. And that was even during the opening track.

Stay tuned for news of gig two.

More new joiners

We are delighted to welcome some more new joiners into the fray.

Please say howdy to Lateef, Ariel, Martin, Angela and Sabrina. Lateef joins on the grad programme, Ariel and Angela are in project management, Martin’s in creative and Sabrina’s in account management.

Here they are pictured in one of our new project rooms, getting a sneak peek of something that a couple of our creatives are currently putting together. (More about that soon…)

Tea with the kitchen police

Science fact: keen minds need copious quantities of tea to function properly. So keeping the agency kitchen shipshape can be a delicious challenge.

That’s why we enlisted the help of an expert at the game. Cue Judith Reed: Clutter Consultant and all-round grandmama extraordinare.

When not buying thermal romper suits for her dog Muggles, or giving her husband Frank the Spanish inquisition, Judith pops into Weapon7 Towers to check everyone is doing their bit. Scary.

Senior copywriter wanted

But not just any senior copywriter, oh no. We’re after someone who gets that ideas can be themes, and that campaigns can be conversations.

Someone who is a thinker, but relishes the chance to write long copy, and especially pithy, clever headlines.

Both digital and offline experience is essential - think online ads, websites and social media shimmying seamlessly with direct mail, point of sale and experiential. Working closely with technology, can you bring it all together and make it sing a splendiferous tune?

If yes, contact jeremy.garner@weapon7.com

Is yours the natural favourite?

The fabulous, sweet-i-licious Natural Confectionery Company site is now live.

You can interact with your favourite sweet from each pack - and the more you engage (on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube etc) the higher they go on the snazzy popularity aggregator.

Only thing is, Pineapple claims he built a time machine and already knows he wins in the end. Hmmm. See it here, and get involved.

Data-driven creativity

Today we had a rather large and cunning new site go live. Rather than just a simple info site, customers arrive at it via personally tailored DM and emails.

Depending on the URL typed in, it will guide them to the most relevant models (based on all sorts of clever data interpretation).

On top of all that, it’s surprisingly fun to play with. See it here.

Smack my pitch up

As a fun exercise, we split into four mini-agencies and pitched against each other to a set brief.

Approaches were diverse, ranging from long copy to a real life gimp as a visual aid.

We all got to try our hands at different roles. And we got a valuable insight into what it’s like for a client to have their own brand sold back to them four different ways in a short space of time.

The SLS AMG in 3D

A rare new breed of supercar deserves a rare new breed of film making.

We worked with specialist Inc on a 3D movie of David Coulthard putting the SLS AMG through its paces at high speeds around the Isle of Man as part of our integrated launch campaign. You can watch this incredible 8 minute film following Sunday’s Liverpool vs Arsenal match, in pubs with Sky 3D channels.

Little TED

Weapon7ers, clients and specially invited guests all recently gathered at Weapon7 Towers for an early morning presentation from digital media luminary Andy Hobsbawm.

He gave us a round-up on the main themes from this year’s TED Global conference. Topics ranged from video games controlled by thought to 3D printers that are the forerunner to Star Trek’s replicators. We all suffered from TED crash following the intense hour.

All very fascinating, but what are the practical applications for us? Well, he has even covered that…

Man vs machine

The cutting edge of digital photography came up against the epitome of traditional image-making on one of our shoots last week.

We pitted a handmade Rosewood 10×8 large format camera against a 65 mega pixel Hasselblad (costing the same amount as a mid-sized saloon) to give exceptional detail and beauty to a powerful subject. They combined beautifully to create a set of very unique images.

All will be revealed soon.

New Weapon7 people

A warm welcome to our four new starters, Nick Riggall (account director), Rehana Lujee (senior data planner), Natalie Brend (senior account manager) and Adam Dovey (management accountant).

Here they are conducting an experiment in our new science room.

They appear to be formulating a delicious cup of coffee, which is always a rather scientific and precarious business here at Weapon7 Towers. Especially when some caffeine cravers have been spotted adding recycled nuclear fuel to their cappuccinos.

Such good sport

It was the annual Weapon7 summer awayday recently. And what a civilised affair it was.

We descended on a croquet club in west London for a spot of mallet-tapping, badminton, leisurely chatter and a few rousing speeches thrown in for good measure.

The weather was deliciously warm, as were the sandwiches, and as the sweating croqueters sipped Pimms and listened to a one-man band playing AC/DC songs, they wondered how they could still be massively competitive when it was being rested from the agenda for once. But, thankfully, croquet allowed huge scope for that.

Are you fast enough?

As part of our SLS AMG Rare Experiences campaign, visitors to Mercedes-Benz World can take the supercar for a virtual spin in specially constructed driving pods.

They can race the SLS AMG around the Nurburgring track, courtesy of an advance preview of the new Gran Turismo 5 game.

Lap times are recorded and displayed on our online leaderboard. And the top 100 will be entered for a chance to put an SLS AMG through its paces for real.

Creative showcase win

We’re pleased that our integrated campaign for smart Brabus has won this month’s IAB Creative Showcase.

The campaign is called ‘It’s what you make it’, and the idea is about customising both the car and the advertising format itself.

So, there’s a website which lets you customise everything from the backgrounds to the font colours, an MPU that saves the data so the latest customised version becomes the next live ad, and an iphone app (built by our friends at Ymogen) which is full of surprises. Even the offline elements - the DM, point of sale and a magazine insert - are customisable. See the campaign here.

And then there were camels

Our new extra space is up and running in the east wing. As an assortment of unusual rooms, the space provides project teams with an inspiring spot to base themselves while they get under the skin of a challenging brief.

This particular room features some of London Zoo’s finest bobby dazzlers, displayed floor to ceiling across all walls. It’s oddly relaxing, being amongst the herd. Thanks to wildlife photographer and Head of Art Ian Patrick (shown here at feeding time) and his family for such a wonderful shoot.
