Our work / Sailor Jerry

Hello

It looks like the pigeon has landed and you're following its foot tag!

However, the URL you've entered doesn't look quite right - maybe give it one more try?

Alternatively you could go straight to the next bit and see for yourself why the pigeon couldn't reach Sailor Jerry's marketing-savvy audience.

New York Festivals judging

Our CD was helping out with some jury service for the New York Festivals recently.

Among the noteworthy entries were an interesting ambient piece for Germany’s equivalent of the Big Issue, a real-time online ad which became a discussion forum about the news content it ran next to, and a simple idea for a calendar to promote a brand of knife.

Then there were the bizarre houseflies that were mollycoddled into carrying around ultra-light banners at the Frankfurt Book Fair. Let’s hope they didn’t carry around disease, too.

I am Mercedes-Benz

Many famous names are involved with Mercedes-Benz from motorsport to fashion. The brand is an icon that has stood the test of time and enjoyed rewarding, intense personal relationships.

As part of the ‘I am’ campaign, our idea is to create an interactive experience that encourages you to explore these relationships. In one area, the ‘I am Ross Brawn’ section, you will discover the F1 guru’s racing philosophy and you can follow hotspots to the current DTM team and the new GP PETRONAS drivers including Michael Schumacher. See the work here.

Or, read more in NMA or Marketing Week.

One minute wonder

One image. One minute. That was the idea behind a presentation that everyone in the agency gave last Thursday night. We each chose a picture that meant something to us, then talked about it for exactly sixty seconds.

Even in such a short time, we learned some astonishing things about everything from Kowloon’s Walled City to Winterthur’s watch-making striker. Not to mention each other.

Changing room

Back in 2001, the agency began in a living room. Now, the living room is in the agency. It’s good to remember where you came from. And it’s loads nicer than your average meeting room.

We’re currently redecorating, with wall-to-wall shagpile, new bookcases and some ducks for the wall. While that’s going on, all the furniture that was in there is gracing the rest of the office. Mind your backs please.

New W7 creatives

Say hello to two new talents to add to our wider creative team: Ross (copywriter) and Dave (art director).

They’re no strangers to the Weapon7 family, having freelanced here for a couple of months. But we felt they were so good that we simply had to have them on board permanently.

The duo most recently worked at Iris, where they were involved with integrated campaigns and events for the likes of Sony.

London Fashion Week

Mercedes-Benz is the main supporter of British fashion during London Fashion Week (LFW). This week we launch the online campaign to raise awareness of its sponsorship that takes place from 19-24 February.

The campaign idea is based around the ‘voices’ that will define this year’s LFW. The site will filter through the avalanche of fashion blogs, celeb gossip and stylist advice from the shows, offering only the best options, news and advice.

The campaign is live all next week - visit the site.

Approved used interactive video

Weapon7 and RSA descended upon Mercedes-Benz World in Weybridge to film our ‘Approved Used’ interactive video.

The video will highlight the elements that go into making the Mercedes-Benz Approved Used programme synonymous with safety and reliability and is part of a wider marketing push behind the programme this year.

E-Class Estate POS

As part of our ‘capacity’ campaign for E-Class estate, we also have major direct mail, email and point of sale activity, in addition to the website and online advertising.

The POS execution shown here, for example, sits directly behind new E-Class models in dealerships, and uses evocative outdoor imagery to instantly put the car in an environment and thus generate enquiries with sales staff.

There are four different POS executions, which are running in dealerships across the UK. Please come back soon to have a gander at a case study of the completed integrated campaign.

Work of conviction

We can finally reveal what all the secrecy was about. We’ve just completed an exciting global campaign for software developer Ubisoft, to launch the new Splinter Cell:Conviction video game.

Fans from over 100 different countries worked together to unlock the mysterious codeofconviction site, following a trail of Xbox Live content, surveillance camera feeds, answerphone messages, websites, blogs, Twitter updates, emails and YouTube videos.

A quick summary of the campaign can be found at http://codeofconviction.blogspot.com/

New E-Class Estate work

The E-Class Estate is all about having the class-leading capacity of an estate, but with the luxury you’d expect from a Mercedes-Benz.

So while the E-Class Estate can accommodate a best in class load of 1,950 litres, it also offers exclusive features that only reveal as you explore further. Just as the site itself does.

The soundtrack also increases in depth as you move from page to page.

Why not explore the site for yourself, and discover the capacity for excitement?

Spicing things up

Rob, our Tech Director, gave a fantastic presentation on his passion for cooking with a live preparation of salt and pepper squid.

It was indeed delicious, but unfortunately, the building’s firealarms nearly tripped twice.

The first time was when Rob toasted his spices. The second, when smoke poured from our CEO’s ears after he happened upon a large sliver of raw chilli in the finished dish.

Get on the blower

With all the odd goings on lately, we felt it was time to call in a specialist.

If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and you can find him, we’re pretty sure this man is the answer to it all.

His phone number is 0044 8448 225730. Give him a call…

YCN mosaic

People often ask us where the name Weapon7 comes from.

Well, we’re certainly not going to reveal the secret to all and sundry - but we are proud of the 7ft tall mosaic that adorns our office wall, in homage to the origins of the name.

It was done entirely using marker pen by Mervyn Galapon, via the Young Creative Network. It features in their new book.

They’re watching us

Recently, one of our campaigns has seen us become embroiled in a massive, online conspiracy theory involving high tech surveillance, big businesses, shadowy organisations and government cover-ups.

Exactly how do we fit into all this? The trail starts here:
